Spring Selections

For the spring selections we choose two Italian wines. They are both fresh and bright and evoke feelings of warmer months.

The white is from the southern Italian island of Sicily. It is made from the indigenous grape named Grillo. The aromas are a mix of citrus fruits and lemon curd with floral notes. Flavors of ripe honeydew melon and orange essence are balanced with a touch of minerality and a round, full finish.

The red wine is a Dolcetto from the town of Alba in Piedmont, Italy. This wine smells of ripe cherries and spice. Flavors of mocha and cherry fruit finish rich and full but light enough to drink in warmer months. This a great food wine!

A stunning Chenin with aromas of grapefruit and lemon curd combine with a strong mineral undertone. The flavors are a beautiful blend of peach, orange peel and passion fruit with hints of oak. The winemaker, Ginny Povell is a Massachusetts native carving her way through the tough wine country of South Africa.

Anderson's Conn Valley Chardonnay
Napa Valley, CA 2008
This 100% estate chardonnay displays aromas of caramelized pineapple, popcorn and nutmeg. The flavors are a seamless blend of peach and buttered brioche with underlying notes of spice and oak with a touch of smokiness. I enjoyed the layers of flavor and depths of this wine.

Anna Maria Abbona Langhe Rosso 'Cado'
Piedmont, Italy 2004
This blend of Barbera and dolcetto is only produced in the best vintages. The word 'cado' means 'gift' in Piedmont and that's just what this wine is. A perfect balance of earth and spice with ripe fruit notes and a smooth, satisfying finish. A great food wine!

Sean Thackery Pleaides XXI
California NV
Named for the Pleaides star cluster, this wine is a blend of several varietals including Syrah, Sangiovese and Mourvedre to name a few. This is an unconventional wine by a truly original winemaker. This small production, highly allocated wine is one of the most complex wines I have tasted. Each sip gives you a new perspective. Aromas and flavors are a mix of sweet, dark red fruit, earth and eucalyptus with a silky, smooth finish.

Amapola Creek, Cabernet Sauvignon
Sonoma Valley, CA 2006
The winery owner, Richard Arrowood has been making wine exclusively in Sonoma County for 45 years. The estate is Certified Organic and the operating winemaking philosophy is "prevention not intervention". This Cabernet is all it should be with flavors of blackberry, black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and spice. This wine makes me truly appreciate the opportunity to offer a bottle with a few years age on it.

Chateau Pindefleurs Saint-Emilion

This ancient chateau was established in 1625 by the mayor of Saint-Emilion. It is a Grand-Cru estate producing a Merlot based Bordeaux. This wine is refined yet powerful with a lengthy seductive finish.

Guigal Saint-Joseph 'Lieu-Dit'
Northern Rhone, France 2007
This is a small production, 100% Syrah from the northern Saint-Joseph appellation of the Cotes-du-Rhone. It is an intense wine with aromas of black tea, fresh cracked black pepper and dark red fruit. The flavors mix berry preserves, cacao, black cherry and spice with a lingering smokey finish.
